Currently, the company Hamleys is looking for suitable areas for the construction of its new stores and concentrates on, of course, the most important American cities such as Los Angeles, Chicago or New York. And further 20 stores Hamleys want to open at airports across the US.
Hamleys toy store is the oldest in the world, founded in the 18th century
The original roots of this iconic toy store dates back to 1760. In 2012, Hamleys was bought by Groupe Ludendo, a French retailer, which has opted for an international expansion program.
Currently, Hamleys has opened several stores not only in the UK but also owns more than 40 stores across the Middle East, Asia and Europe.
Several British retailers have already tried to expand into the US market, but they haven´t been very successful. It applies for example to Marks & Spencer, Tesco or Sainsbury's - companies that were all forced to withdraw after experiencing very poor sales. On the other hand, there are very successful British companies like Topshop and Ted Baker, which are successful at US market. We have no choice but wish the same thing to Hamleys – just a lot of satisfied customers!
